▷▷▷Six Ways You Can Be a Better Golfer the Next Time You Play

Playing good golf takes time and effort. Even if you have a limited amount of time, here are six things you can do that will make you a better golfer, the next time out, that I know you have the time to do.

1. Get a lesson. Most of us play the shots pretty well, but have one shot that never works out. Like those 30- to 40-yard pitches. Get a lesson and learn how to hit it. Why? Because subconsciously you play to avoid having to hit that shot, which makes you do things on the course you don't want to do, which prevents you from getting the most out of the shots you can hit. Patch up that hole so you can play your game all the time.

2. Practice putting at home, every day, for ten minutes. Set a target down about eight feet away and practice from two feet to eight feet. Pay special attention to the three- and four-footers. Making these short putts can save you two or three strokes the next time out, easy.

3. Practice your grip. Yes, practice your grip. Read any golf instruction book carefully, or have a lesson, and learn what a good grip is. Then practice it until it becomes second nature to put your hands on the club the right way, every time. More poor shots are caused by unnoticed variations in the grip than by any other factor.

4. Think about the golf course you're going to play. If it's one you play often, you should know these things before you head out: which club you will hit off each tee, what part of the green to aim for and what part of the green you should never miss on, which holes you should play for bogey and which holes you can play straight up.

5. Warm up properly before the round. The warm-up gets you loose, but it also gets you in a groove if you do it right. Make more practice swings than you make at a ball. Spend time reminding yourself of how your swing works and get all those movements flowing. Work on tempo and make each swing be a controlled swing. Practice any unique shots that you know will come up, like that 50-yard pitch over water on the 5th hole. On the practice green, hit approach putts for speed, and two-foot putts to see the ball go in the hole.

6. Develop a positive mind. The only way you can play your best is to be positive about everything you do. Step up to the ball eager to hit it because you can't wait to see how well the shot will turn out. Also, be an engaging partner to the members of your group. A positive attitude makes the outing enjoyable for ourselves and the people we play with.
