▷▷▷How to Hit a Golf Ball Straight - Do You Make These Mistakes in Your Set Up?

"Why God? Why?

"Why did you make me start playing this dreadful game called golf?"

If you've ever had that kind of conversation with yourself more than a few times, I have very bad news for you.

In all probability it's too late, you're already hooked. The awful truth is you couldn't stop playing golf even if you wanted to.

Yes, its true golf can be the most frustrating game on Earth, so if we can't stop playing, there is only one alternative.

We have to become better players; we can then start to enjoy the game.

One thing which makes golf a darn sight easier is the know how to hit a golf ball straight. Keeping the ball straight and out of trouble gives you a huge head start. You not always playing out of the rough, or chipping out from behind a tree.

Suddenly golf got a lot more pleasurable.

So how are we going to learn how to hit a golf ball straight - two words - Aim and Alignment.

1) The key is to begin your shot from a square set up position with regard to the club face and your body

2) Your shoulders determine the direction in which your arms swing, they must be aligned correctly to ensure the club face points to the target on impact.

3) It is your club face that makes impact with the ball, this determines the direction in which the ball will travel

4) Use the grooves on your club as your guide, it sounds simplistic, but make sure they lie 90' to the target.

5) Pay attention to alignment of your hips. They dictate the amount of rotation away from and back to the ball Open hips restrict the backswing and closed hips cause over rotation on the backswing.

6) Alignment of the feet is the least important, but be careful as poor foot position can affect the position of the more important elements.

If you are really serious about starting to enjoy your golf instead of suffering it, start by learning how to hit a golf ball straight.

▷▷▷Six Lessons We Can Learn From Sam Snead

Like many of golf's great players, Sam Snead relied on swing keys to help him achieve consistency. As his membership in golf's hall of fame attests, these swing keys served him well during his career. What's interesting is that many of them are still used by today's pros to do the same thing.

Below are several time-tested swing keys that can help you achieve consistency and knock that golf handicap down a few notches.

1. Relax Your Hands

Your hands are one of the keys to your swing. If your hands are tight and tense, your body will be tight and tense, and you won't be able to swing freely. If your hands are loose, you'll not only hit the ball farther but you'll even swing smoother as well.

Snead used to think of gripping the club with the same amount of pressure you'd use to hold a bird just firm enough to let it fly away but not firm enough to hurt it. Others think of holding a tube of toothpaste in their hands, just firm enough to squeeze a little toothpaste out of the tube but not hard enough to push out too much.

2. First Move Down

Different golfers key on different things to begin their swings. Some focus on pulling downward with the left arm (for right-handers). Others concentrate on turning the front hip in slightly. Still others key on lowering the left heel slightly. For Snead, it was all these things. Since you can think of all them at once while you swing, choose whichever move reminds you to make your first move down.

3. Hit The Dimple

A lot of my students ask during golf lessons what to look at when putting the ball. Apparently, a lot of people also asked Sam the same question when he was playing on the tour. He had a simple answer. Pick out a dimple on the ball and try to hit it.

The idea is to make the club strike the farthest back part of the ball every time. Zero in on that particular dimple, then putt away. If you hit that dimple squarely your putter is probably moving and facing in the right direction. You'll get solid contact unless you're chopping at the ball or swing up to it. Aiming for the dimple will improve consistency.

4. Cure The Slice

The slice is probably the biggest swing fault among recreational golfers. To cure a slice, check to see that:

o The club starts back inside the line

o Your left side is completing the turn

o The left arm/hand dominate the backswing/downswing

o The stance is not the same for the intentional slice, hindering a complete pivot.

For a quick cure, try hitting the ball to the right of the fairway. This approach aids in bringing the club into the ball more from the inside than the outside.

5. Lobbing to the Green

Snead always relished a challenge. And trying to hit a lob shot over a hazard to the green is a challenge. Snead's advice when pitching over a hazard with little green between him and the hole was simple: You want the shot to fly high and land soft-one that will settle in its tracks. To execute this shot, you first need to address the ball with the clubface laid back more than usual, increasing the loft.

Once you've done that, take the club straight back and break your wrists early in the swing. Strike down through the ball with the hands leading through the clubhead, and with the wrists snapping into the ball. This produces a high lob that lands softly. The whole swing should be leisurely and rhythmical.

6. Swing in "Waltz" Time

Everyone has his or her own pace. Some golfers play at a fast pace. Others play at a more leisurely pace. If you had seen Sam play, you would have noticed that he always swung the club slowly and smoothly. He called it swinging in waltz time and that was his swing key for keeping his swing under control.

Sam liked to tell the story of the time he gave a lesson to player who played like he was going to a fire. He couldn't get at the ball quick enough in an effort to try and hit the ball 400 yards. The divots were flying father than the balls. Afraid the guy might hurt himself, Sam stepped in and told the guy to slow his swing down. Next time Sam saw the man, he was amazed. The man had slowed his swing down to waltz time.

Sam Snead was one of the games best players and teachers. Like many golfers he used specific keys to trigger his golf swing and achieve consistency. The six we explained above were just a sample. By incorporating them into your swing, you'll be well on your way to reaching that single-digit golf handicap you've always wanted.

▷▷▷Golf Swing Thoughts

When we play golf, we're awake. The implication of that obvious statement is that our conscious mind is running full tilt looking for something to think about. This tendency can be ruinous to your golf game, but if you pick the right swing thoughts, and use them wisely, they can help you immeasurably.

A swing thought is something that will help focus your mind on what it is you're about to do. The key to developing helpful swing thoughts is being sure what is meant by the phrase, "what it is you're about to do."

It refers to what the goal of your swing is. It does not mean what you have to do to achieve that goal. Let's say you want to be sure you hit the ball on the center of the clubface. Good things happen when you do that. In order to achieve that centered contact, you might think to keep your right elbow tucked, or think something about your turn, or any number of things that are important for bring the clubface into the ball the way you want.

The swing thought you should not adopt is, "Right elbow in," or something like that. This interferes with the subconscious mind. It will be very simple to over-do the right elbow being in, or put too much emphasis on it and let a different aspect of your swing go haywire.

The swing thought you should adopt is, "Center hit." That's what you want to have happen. By thinking of that alone, you give your subconscious mind the freedom to order your body through the motions that provide that result.

Focus on the goal. Let the means take care of itself. Harvey Penick famously advised, "When I ask you to take an aspirin, please don't take the whole bottle." There are lots of ways you can manipulate the clubface, and most of them are wrong. There is only one center of the clubface, which means you can go ahead and take the whole bottle, because it has only one aspirin in it. You can't go wrong.

Other good swing thoughts might be, "Ball first, ground second," which I can't remind you about often enough, or "Beautiful tempo." Those are goals, not processes.

The second thing to do with a swing thought is to use it only when you need to. When you use it every time you hit the ball, it gets stale, and its effect wears off. That's why most swing thoughts work only one day, or maybe not even that long.

If your swing thought is, "Center hit," use it on your opening drive, and your first shot from the fairway, then let it alone. Coast for a few holes on the confidence gained from getting a center hit on your opening shots. Later in the round, if you have a tee shot to a tight fairway, or an iron into a green where a good shot will ensure a par and maybe set up a birdie, think, "Center hit," again.

The rule would be, use only when you need it - when you start to feel some anxiety about the shot you face. You're going back to the words you know you can rely on, and that you can trust. That's the best recipe for eliminating anxiety - not by working through it, but by sending your mind to a positive place.

Finally, you have to believe. I mean, truly believe. My 11-year-old grandson uses "Center hit" when he plays. A few times per round he says it out loud to himself (another good idea) and every time he says it he hits the ball flush, because he believes it will work.

If your swing thought is just something you say, or something that you hope will do the job for you, it's useless to try. You have to have the confidence that your swing thought is the trigger for your subconscious mind taking over to achieve the goal your swing thought demands.

STRAIGHT SHOOTING GOLF

List Price: $3.95 STRAIGHT SHOOTING GOLF is unlike any instructional book you have read in the past. It will teach you how to lock-in a straight golf shot during your setup routine and then how to execute a perfect golf swing to hit your ball as straight as a laser beam, one golf shot after another.
STRAIGHT SHOOTING GOLF presents ten techniques to hit a golf ball as straight as a laser beam, one golf shot after another. It teaches you how to lock-in a straight ball flight alignment each and every time.
Once a straight ball flight alignment is locked-in, it then just becomes a matter of completing your setup routine and executing a simple golf swing. Then watch your ball fly as straight as a laser beam directly to your target.
The benefits of being able to perform these techniques are incredible. Almost overnight you should expect
• Your ball to fly straighter, higher and longer than ever before.

• Your drives to fly as straight-as-an-arrow down the middle of the fairway.

• Your approach shots to fly straight to the green.

• Never to hit another pulled golf shot.

• Never to hit another pushed golf shot.

• Never to hit another hook.

• Never to hit another banana ball.

• Never to push-slice your ball out-of-bounds never to be found.

• Never to hit another duck-hook.

• Never to hit another skulled golf shot.

• Never to hit another chunked golf shot.

Gordon Jackson has written more extensively about golf instruction than any one in the history of the sport. He has produced more than 50 instructional DVDs, written more than 30 Special Reports and published twelve books on his Locked-In Golf™ techniques. His books include:
*HOW TO HIT A GOLF BALL AS STRAIGHT-AS-AN-ARROW
*HOW TO LOCK-IN A PERFECT GOLF SWING
*HOW GOLF WORKS
*TOO SIMPLE TO BE GOLF
*THE LOCKED-IN GOLF METHOD
*HIT IT DEAD STRAIGHT
*INSTANT GOLF
*STRAIGHT SHOOTING GOLF
*HOW TO HIT A POWER DRAW
*HOW TO HIT A PERFECT FADE
*HOW TO LOCK-IN A PERFECT GRIP
*THE LOCKED-IN GOLF SWING

After many years of extensive research and thousands of experiments, he was the first to discover the fundamental flaw of golf which he characterizes as the “Vardon Curse.”
The “Vardon Curse” simply means the instant a conventional style of grip is formed on a golf club, the wrists will rotate the clubface to an effective open alignment and to an out-to-in swing path, creating a slice ball flight alignment.
Since such discovery, he has designed, developed and perfected more than 100 techniques to convert the inherent slice ball flight alignment to a straight ball flight alignment to produce a golf shot as straight-as-an-an arrow. The instructions to perform many of these techniques on DVDs are available at http://lockedingolf.com and http://jacksongolfmethod.com
In addition, he has designed, developed and perfected more than 30 techniques to lock-in and produce shaped golf shots. The instructions to perform many of these locked-in shaped golf shots are available at http://shapinggolfshots.com. Instructions to perform his locked-in putting techniques may be found at http://lockedinputtting,com
Also, many of his techniques as well as much of his research, experiments and validated tests are addressed in his books, DVDs, Special Reports, blogs and articles with one purpose in mind:
TO TRANSFORM GOLF FROM A
“GAME OF GUESS” TO A “GAME OF SUCCESS.”

▷▷▷Concentrate on Your Golf Putting Basics

It has been said that your putting game can account for fifty percent or more of your golf score. If you are looking for the quickest way to lose a few strokes from your game, then concentrating on putting basics may be the most effective way. Here is a quick review of golf putting basics and golf drills to help you rapidly improve your putting game.

First, check your setup and golf putting techniques. There are many different ways to set up for the golf putting stroke, but the key to proper set up is that you are comfortable over the ball while your eyes are directly positioned vertically over the ball. Make sure you have a light grip tension and with no breakdown in your putting stroke. When making your golf putting stroke, use a steady, pendulum-like tempo and make sure to accelerate through the ball toward your target while keeping a "quiet" lower body throughout stroke. Accelerating through the ball is very important as many golfers simply bring the putter back, then decelerate through impact, causing errant putter strokes.

Second, incorporate a range of putting basics practice drills that work on distance control and accuracy as well as putting techniques. Here are three of our favorites putting basics drills:

Putting Stroke Alignment: Putting Track Drill

Lay down two irons just wider than putter parallel to putting line. Practice 6 foot putts emphasizing smooth, square stroke.

Solid Golf Ball Contact: Putting Gate Drill

About two feet from the cup, place two tees very close to the toe and heel of putter making a "gate" and place ball in the middle of the gate. Hit putts swinging through gate, ensuring solid contact with the ball while missing the tees.

Golf Putting Distance Control: Putting Ladder Drill

Place line of tees at regular intervals up to cup. Putt to first tee, then putt to each subsequent tee. If putt too far or short of target, start over.

If you practice these golf putting basics drills and golf putting techniques regularly and incorporate them into your practice routines, you will aid your putting alignment, contact and distance control dramatically, which will have a direct impact on lowering your golf score.

▷▷▷Golf Swing Breakdown - Breaking the Golf Swing Down Into 4 Essential Parts

While you can break the golf swing down into a hundred different positions if you wanted to, I have found that really these four essential parts of the golf swing can literally make or break your golf swing. In this article I am going to share with you the four key components of the golf swing breakdown, and what you can do to make sure that you get each one right.

1. The first part of the swing is the takeaway. To get this right, you want to make sure that you take the club away to the outside, which will keep you from slicing or hooking the ball. Most golfers bring the club too far to the inside, and that just kills your golf swing.

2. The next thing that you must do is make sure that you get to the top of the backswing in the correct manner. So many golfers mess this up, because they either do not turn their shoulders behind the ball, or they simply over swing. To cure this, make sure that you complete the turn on your backswing, get your weight on your back foot, and your left shoulder should be tucked under your chin (for right handed players). This is a crucial component of any golf swing breakdown.

3. The third thing that you must do is start the downswing correctly. Over 80% of amateur golfers get this wrong, and it really is not that hard. When you get to the top of your swing, start the downswing with your hips, not your arms. Rotating your hips toward the target will ensure that you deliver the club to the ball with maximum speed and force, producing longer and straighter golf shots.

4. Last but not least you must focus on your finish position. Of course you have already contacted the ball, but by reverse engineering the process you can see just how import it is. If you finish in the proper position, with your weight on your front side, it means that you have come through the ball in the correct manner, and have maintained balance throughout the swing.

This is a very basic golf swing breakdown, but one that works.

▷▷▷Perfect Golf Swing - the Simple Golf Swing Review

Does dropping your handicap by AT LEAST 7 strokes in a week sound impossible? This downloadable e-book, The Simple Golf Swing by David Nevogt, guarantees to do so. I thought this might me a load of crap at first, but I was pleasantly surprised.

So what makes The Simple Golf Swing so different from other books?

The Simple Golf Swing is about using the spine as an axis to promote consistency and to keep you on the correct swing plane. You'll learn the correct hand action so that you can add distance to every shot. You'll learn the correct timing to get straight ball flight, and consistent direction. You get a step-by-step guide on the full swing, a step-by-step guide on the short game, a mental guide, and personal coaching to make all of this happen quickly and easily.

Some of the things that you will learn:

Unique setup Grip Timing Drill Alignment Drill Backswing (2 unique steps) Downswing (1 unique step) Follow through (1 unique step)You will be able to learn and embrace each of these steps quickly. They are each crucial to lowering your handicap and making solid impact with the ball. The Simple Golf Swing will teach you a controlled swing. The advantage of a controlled swing is that you will be able to increase or decrease your swing speed, according to the current situation, and yardage variances.Whether you are hitting a driver or a nine iron, you can put the exact same swing on the ball and know that you are going to make solid contact with the ball. Consistency is the goal with The Simple Golf Swing, and that's why you will benefit from it.

The Simple Golf Swing is also different because it was built for the Bogey + golfer. It's developed for the majority of golfers; the golfers who want to break 80, 85, or 90. It brakes down the golf swing, and builds it from the bottom up so that the average golfer now has a solid reference point for every component of the golf swing.

What you really gain from The Simple Golf Swing:

You will find a step-by-step guide with detailed photos that will teach you the correct way to grip the club. Instructions for the interlocking and the overlapping grip are included. This will let you experiment to see what works best for YOU. Learn a method to check that you grip the club in the same manner for every shot to promote consistency. Learn a detailed procedure that will ensure that your grip promotes straight ball flight, and not a hook or a slice. Learn a secret on how to align the club face so that you don't push the ball right. Discover an easy method to hit more greens. Learn the revolutionary setup. "The Simple Golf Swing" setup allows you to swing around your spine. The key is to limit the amount of horizontal and vertical body movement during the swing. This setup will automatically give you the correct swing plane that promotes consistency and power. It's given to you in a step-by-step procedure that is easy to remember on the course. Discover the easiest way to make perfect impact with the ball on every shot. You may have heard of the one-piece takeaway. Learn the method that will help you master this move, and keep your swing connected. This is the most beneficial part of the system. It provides consistency, and gives you a controlled swing that results in increased distance. Learn how to get to the top of your backswing, and how to get into the same position for every shot. "The Simple Golf Swing" teaches you a method that promotes an inside-out swing that you can use to automatically hit the fairway. Learn where to stop your backswing. A short backswing promotes consistency, and increased distance. Discover the distance secret that many instructors don't even address because it's so hard to teach. Here's a hint: Hand Action that can increase your swing speed by 10 mph.
The Simple Golf Swing really impressed me so much that I purchased their new apprentice program which works wonders on your golf game. Start off with the book first to see if it works for you. It's risk free with the guarantee. You also get a free sample chapter of The Simple Golf Swing that the site gives you which is very informative. After reading and applying the techniques in the book consider checking out their apprentice program. You won't be sorry.

▷▷▷Golf - Cure That Hook In One Day!

For most golfers it is the golf slice that gives us the most headaches out on the golf course. But, for many others who hook the golf ball, the problem can be just as frustrating. So, how can you stop hooking the golf ball and begin hitting more fairways? It's easier than you might think and I'm going to show you how to get immediate results.

Stance - Position the ball in the middle or a little forward in your stance. For most golfers who hook the ball I see them position the ball too far back in their stance. You want to keep the ball in the middle or even with your left heel (if you're right-handed). Make sure you position your feet toward your target line. Both of the tips of your toes should be even, or a little to the left of the target line. This more open stance will help reduce the chances of hooking the golf ball. Don't position your left foot more forward in your stance than your right. Keep them even.

Grip - Grip the club with your hands facing straight down. Golfers who hook the ball tend to set up with their right hand facing too far toward the left side. You want to make sure the "V" formation your hands create by holding the golf club is pointing straight up to your nose. This will go a long way in eliminating a golf hook. The other aspect to a proper golf grip that will eliminate hooking the ball is grip strength. Try not to grip the club too firmly. What happens with an overly firm grip is that when you swing your right hand will turn over and come around, automatically causing you to hook the ball. Use a little less strength in your grip and you should immediately start seeing better results.

Weight - You want to be sure that after your backswing your weight is more on your left foot. Many times a golfer will hook the ball due to the majority of their weight being on their right foot, or back foot. By doing that, you can rest assured you will hook the golf ball every time. It creates a closed clubface by forcing you to come around with the club. If you or you see someone else hit a snap-hook, this is what happened. Be conscious of where your weight is when you finish your golf swing and you can correct this problem immediately.

These are just a few simple tips to help in eliminating that dreaded golf hook. By simply going to the driving range and putting these tips into practice you will start to see immediate results that will translate into lower scores out on the course.

▷▷▷Learn How To Play Golf

As great as the game of golf is, I have heard it said that golf is the largest Rubik's cube that will never be figured out. With that being said how are beginner golfers supposed to learn how to play golf? Fortunately, there are many ways to learn how to play golf and enjoy this game. For example, the game of golf has a rich history that you can spend hours and hours reading and or researching.

There are three basic ways to learn how to play golf.

Take an Individual Lesson - There are many other things that you would not attempt to learn yourself. However, everybody thinks that hitting a little white ball can not be that hard so they try it themselves or they have a friend teach them how to play golf. Just as if you are cooking or building a building there are some fundamental things that need to happen so the end result is reached. An individual lesson is the best way to get the most individual attention to your swing and you should see the quickest results. When first learning how to play golf, I would suggest taking thirty minute lessons and not an hour lesson. The reason why is that you will be hearing a lot of new information and you will only be able to process so much of it. The Professional should start with putting and gradually move farther and farther away from the hole. In addition, you will physically be asked to do things that you are not used to doing and you will tire quickly during the early lessons.

Take a Group Clinic - Learning in a group is another way to learn how to play golf. Finding a beginner clinic will place you with other new golfers who are at the same skill level and can turn into your new playing partners. Typically during a group clinic, the instructor will give a presentation to the group and then allow everyone to spread out on the range tee and will spend some individual time with each student. If you like to learn at your own pace this is a good place for you to start. Before you sign up for the clinic, make sure that the clinic will cover all aspects of the game. The clinic should spend time on putting, chipping, pitching, full swing and the rules. This way you are exposed to all aspects of the game. A clinic that goes to the range every meeting is not going to do you much good once you get your golf ball up and around the green. What do you do then? Learning how to putt and chip is very important when you are first learning how to play golf as more than 50% of your shots will be considered "short game shots." Learning these shots will be the quickest way to lower your scores.

Third way to learn how to play golf is to teach yourself the game through reading books, watching golf DVDs as well as actual trial and error. Obviously this will take the longest to master. However, if score is not your main objective and gaining more exercise or spotting nature during your round is more important to you then this is (by far) the most inexpensive route to take.

If you are interested in learning how to play golf, above are three different ways to become involved in the game. If you are looking for more information on how to play golf, go to http://www.virtualgolfswing.com to find free golf instructional articles, golf instruction books and golf instruction DVDs.

▷▷▷How to Break 80 Consistently

If you are you are reading this article then you are a serious golfer. Any golfer who wants to break 80 on a consistent basis is a serious golfer. A serious golfer knows that in order to do this they will have to practice. While we all know that practice is important what's more important is what to practice. In order to know what to practice you will need to measure your game as you play it.

Let me explain what I mean by that. As you are playing you will need to note how your game is performing. On your scorecard not only should you keep your scores you should also take note of how many fairways your hit, how many greens you hit, how many putts you take to get the ball in the hole and how many bunkers you end up in.

You should also note the length of your drives. The objective is simple. You want to identify your weaknesses. You need to know what part of your game you need to improve. The only way you can do this in all honesty is by measuring your game as you play it. The numbers never lie, that is of course if you are honest. If you find you are hitting fewer fairways than greens then your driver is in question.

If you are hitting fairways but not hitting greens then your irons are in question. If you are over 36 putts a round then your putting is in question. Once you know what is in question you will know what to focus on. Then you can seek out the necessary information to improve that aspect of your game and practice it.

The key to your success lies in your own understanding of your own game. Once you get that down then you will be able to improve your game consistently.

▷▷▷It's The Simple Moves That Make Change Easier And Effective!

Last week while playing some business golf with people in my referral network, I found reinforcement for thinking behind the approach I have been using with clients to help them make the critical changes necessary to thrive in these uncertain times. It was an unexpected and very nice side benefit of spending a pleasant afternoon with friends on the golf course.

One of my golfing partners that day, Doug Welch, recently was involved in helping sell a warehouse where he came across a book titled "One Move To Better Golf: A simple 'One-Move Method' to Produce a Perfect Swing" by Carl Lohren with Larry Dennis, first published in the 1970's.

Doug decided to read the book he found and told us on the first hole that it is "one of the best books on golf instruction I have ever read!" And Doug pointed out that he has read hundreds of golf instruction magazines and books in his lifetime.

Doug then proceeded to hit 13 or 14 fairways on Friday!!! It was truly the best exhibition of driving the golf ball I have ever witnessed! He hit them straight and long all day.

THE KEY LESSON from this day on the golf course was...

"Simple Moves" can solve complex problems!!!

This golf outing was first-hand proof that "Simple Moves" can solve complex problems! Anyone who plays golf knows how complex we can make the golf swing.

The same can be said about a lot of things in life - we can make them more complex than they have to be! Granted, some things do get complex because of the number of people and connecting points involved. The thing is, we tend to make moves that complicate our challenge even more. Instead, we should step back to look for simple moves that will create momentum for the overall challenge!

Below are three examples of other simple moves (outside of golf) that make change easier and more effective:

Losing Weight. Researchers have found that the two simple moves of adding just 500 steps to your daily routine and cutting just 100 calories from one meal each day can get you on a path to losing one pound every 10 days. It's this simple move that gets people going in the right direction. Once headed in that direction, people are then inspired to be overachievers on their path. Dealing with Difficult Relationship Challenges. This title immediately resonates with most people because everyone can find some relationship in their life where they are facing challenges during these uncertain times. However, the title is part of the problem if we want to really resolve the challenge. It is the antithesis of solution-focused therapy - focusing on the problem instead of the solution. The first step in dealing with difficult relationship challenges is to re-frame the challenge to be focusing on the positive solution we want to work toward and then making simple moves in that direction. Improving Strategy and Execution. When faced with major challenges in business, leaders need to step back and evaluate their overall strategy and overall execution to define a path forward. This seems like a huge undertaking (perception problem) when the leaders of the company are already overwhelmed and searching for some quick relief! This perception problem comes from the experience that most people have had with strategic planning - it has been a time intensive process which results in a large document that sits on the shelf and provides no immediate relief! Embracing a new and more practical strategic planning model and process, the One-Page Strategic Plan, is a simple move that can create momentum and provide immediate results. The initial strategic planning can be done in short iterative meetings over time and create real momentum and results during the first 90 days. It is then just a matter of developing quarterly execution plans that can build-on the initial momentum of your strategic planning efforts!

So, ask yourself...

What "Simple Moves" could help me solve my complex challenges right now?

You might need an objective coach or friend looking at your situation from the outside to find your right "simple move" but it will make the change you face much easier and more effective!

▷▷▷At Last, the Secret to Dead on Ball Striking in Your Golf Swing - You Will Love This

Ok, here we go! Some time ago I wrote on how important it was to pay close attention to the position of the wrists in your golf swing.

Golf swing instruction seldom will spend much time or effort in this area of your swing, I don't understand that but that seems to be the way it is.

In a nut shell, I have suggested rather strongly that the left wrist position must be at least flat at the top of your backswing, and not cupped. This will put your right wrist in it's proper position which is bent back or trayed. You know, like you were carrying a tray of dirty dishes up over your shoulder.

The reason for this is that it is one of the power source as it creates a very powerful angle. Angles are leverage and leverage is power. So creating this angle at the top of your swing is an excellent power source as long as you don't allow the angles to dissipate too early in the downswing.

The feedback that I get often is that some folks just could not hold the angles long enough and suffered from what you could call an " early release " this destroys the angle and you end up with a serious power drain.

So with that in mind, I thought that perhaps some re-thinking on the wrist positions at the top might provide an opportunity to find a way to maintain these angles that could be incorporated in golf swing instruction.

That a slight change in the position at the top of the swing in the left wrist would work, provided we added a slight move to start the downswing.

And so I discovered a couple of old pictures of Ben Hogan at the point of his move down from the top.

His left wrist was cupped. Ureka! That is dead wrong, I thought. But, but of course, that couldn't be because we all now that Hogan was one of the best strikers of the golf ball that ever lived.

Looking at Ben Hogan's wrist position at impact, however, proved that he did, indeed, maintain great angles because his left wrist at this crucial point was not cupped, it was bowed out toward the target and therefore in the exact position that it should have been at the top.

So he had changed the left wrist position on the downswing. From a cupped to a flat position.

All he did was turn his left wrist to the flat position as he started the downswing. This, is a great move. Here is what happens.

As he bumps his left hip laterally to start the downswing, at the same time he turns his left wrist flat. This forces the club to sort of lay off, it also puts his right wrist in the trayed position and at the same time it moves his right elbow toward his right hip.

This move happens BEFORE his hands and arms take an active downward move.

All of these are absolutely perfect positions to be in and they all happened because of one tiny little move with the flattening of the left wrist.

There is also, on the downswing, a turning of the left elbow toward the left hip. But this is not something that I think you should try to do, it just happens if the left wrist is in the flat or bowed position.

The movement of the left wrist if subtle, I almost couldn't even see it. But, rest assured, that is exactly what Ben Hogan was doing.

I took it to the range. The results were unbelievable. And I really didn't have much trouble doing it. The problem I had is that I have been working on keeping the left wrist flat on the backswing for so long that it was hard to keep it cupped at the top in order to create the need to make this move.

What I did learn is that making this little move, even if my left wrist was flat at the top, provide a decidedly increase in the POP at the impact position and it changed the trajectory of my shots into a lower to rising shot. That I liked a lot.

So give it a try. If you find it hard to get the left wrist in the flat position at the top, this move is made for you.

For the rest, it may well provide you with that one thing your missing, creating and maintaining great angles and hence great leverage that creates unbelievable power in you golf swing.

▷▷▷Can You Swing Easy and Hit a Golf Ball Far?

Golfers want to hit the ball a long way, and they think they have to hit the ball hard to do it. That's exactly right. You have to hit the ball hard. That doesn't mean, though, that you have to swing hard.

If you've had the experience of throwing a ball, like in baseball or softball, you know that you can't be a wad of tension if you want to throw the ball as far as you can. Muscles are certainly involved, but they are involved in a sequence of movements, each one of which plays a dual role. Each movement adds its own contribution to the total effort and at the same time leads into the next movement.

Only when muscles are relaxed can they perform both functions fully. The basic movements are performed correctly and add their full part to the total. They also flow freely to the next movement, the whole sequence building on itself like a chain reaction. Tension introduced at any point is like throwing sand in the gears.

Relaxation builds up speed, but that speed must be kept under control. There is a balance between clubhead speed and swing tempo that must be maintained throughout the swing for maximum clubhead speed to be attained and at the same time precisely applied.

Precise application is the goal of the golf swing, because that is the real secret to hitting the ball as far as you can. The ball will go the farthest when it is hit on the center of the clubface with the clubface square to the club's path through the ball.

The best way to ensure that happens is to swing easily. Not deliberately, or carefully, but freely, with the movement of the clubhead coordinated with the movement of the body and the arms.

The best way to learn how to do this is to practice slow-motion swings. Make full, flowing swings, maintaining the rhythm of the swing, but slowing down the overall tempo so that correct swing habits are preserved, and giving the mind enough time to govern the proper swing sequence.

Try going to the range and making slow motion swings. Then hit a ball, swinging not too much faster than you were just doing, but definitely slower than you normally do. You might be surprised at how straight the ball goes, and how far. If you want to hit the ball farther, resist the urge to ramp up your swing speed right away. Keep making slow, controlled swings, gradually increasing the speed, never thinking about how far the ball will go, but only how smoothly you can swing.

You will find that this smooth swing delivers a hard hit that will get you the distance you have been looking for.

▷▷▷Seven Secrets to Great Golf

Golfers it seems are always looking for a tip that will transform their games. But they seldom achieve low golf handicaps without a lot of work. Often, that involves a combination of things, like practicing and playing, taking golf lessons, and studying golf tips. Over time, these golfers develop the skills necessary to chop strokes off their scores and their golf handicaps. They also pick up on "secrets" than can change you from a good golfer to a great one.

Below are seven secrets to playing great golf. These secrets can help turn your game around and can help you cut your golf handicap. They're not major things, like a swing change. They're small things that many solid players do. Keep them in mind next time you practice or play a round.

Develop Your Golf Muscles
Flexibility, balance, and symmetry are keys to great golf. Before playing, work on flexibility. Stretch your back and shoulder muscles, as well as your hips, torso and rotator cuffs. When not playing, work on balance and symmetry. To improve balance, do exercises and drills on one leg. To improve symmetry, switch legs while exercising. And do some cardiovascular exercise, like power walking, running, or swimming. Cardiovascular exercise strengthens legs and improves stamina.

Chipping Off Hardpan
Minor adjustments to your normal chipping set up helps you chip from hardpan. Play the ball toward the back of your stance and set the club's heel so it's off the ground. Also, keep the shaft vertical by standing closer to the ball. When you swing, keep the face square to your target. Rock your shoulders to make a putting type of stroke. And focus on making ball first contact.

Hitting a Soft Pitch To A Tight Pin
If you're in light rough, play the shot like a bunker shot. Open the clubface, cock your wrists early on the backswing, and hit the grass behind the ball with some speed. The harder you swing the higher the ball goes. From a tight fairway grass, you've got to make perfect contact and nip the ball off the grass. To do that, keep your grip pressure relaxed and your head position constant. Don't let your head rise or dip through contact.

Hitting a Tight Fairway
A 3-wood or 5-wood is usually a better choice when trying to hit a tight fairway. You'll hit it straighter with these clubs than your driver. But if you must use a driver, tee the ball lower. Hit it with a normal swing, not a steep punch shot. You'll get a lower trajectory and more roll-almost like topspin-instead of the sidespin and curve you might get by raising the tee and hitting the ball higher.

Lay Up Smartly
When laying up, always make a commitment to the yardage you want for your next shot. Don't just chip out of trouble or blindly hit your longest club down the fairway. Be aggressive enough to make your next shot easier. Also, don't take the lay-up shot for granted. Concentrate on this shot as hard as you do on tee and approach shots.

How To Hit It Over Water
Many weekend golfers psych themselves out when hitting over water. Sometimes, they're standing on a downhill slope staring at water short and long. This shot requires precision. If they hit the ball long or fat with a longer club or spin it too much with a wedge, they'll end up in the drink. Instead, take some practice balls and hit shots over water until you see yourself doing it successfully. Visualize making the shot until the water doesn't exist in your mind any more.

How Not To Hit Two Bad Shots In A Row
Sometimes, when a golfer hits a bad shot, she quickly follows it with another one, and then another. Bad shots inflate scores, which in turn, balloon golf handicaps. Don't dwell on a bad shot. Learn to take pride in making a three-footer after missing one on the previous fairway or hitting a straight drive after slicing one badly on the previous hole. Accept your mistake, stay positive, and concentrate on hitting the next shot. Above all, stay in the moment.

These seven secrets are not major changes to your game. But they can help you cut strokes off your golf handicap-and that's all that counts. So keep them in mind next time you play a round.

▷▷▷The Professional by WC Heinz

Being a boxing writer myself for many years, I can now totally appreciate it when people told me for years that "The Professional" by W.C. Heinz was the best boxing book ever written and one of the greatest novels of all time. There's even an introduction by iconic Elmore Leonard, where he credits Heinz as being one of his mentors.

The book, written in 1958, is basically the life in the training camp of a fighter named Eddie Brown, who after a long boxing career, is finally getting a shot at a world's title. His crusty manager Doc Carroll has been around boxing forever, but Eddie Brown is Doc's last shot at achieving immortality in a sport Doc so obviously detests. Eddie seems to like everyone and Doc trusts no one, which makes for some interesting discourses concerning the inner workings of a sport that has been run by crooks and thieves since the start of the 20th Century.

The book is written from the third person view point of sportswriter Frank Hughes, who accompanies Eddie to training camp, trying to grasp the essence of a boxer's life while he's preparing for the biggest moment in his life. Frank is no more than a fly on the wall, trying to help out Eddie and Doc, but at the same time keeping a detachment that will make his magazine article impartial and true.

The professional is a must read for boxing fans, but those who don't really care for the sport can enjoy this book too, firm in the knowledge that W.C. Heinz is right on the mark with his observations about a slimy sport that has not changed much from when this book was written 52 years ago.

▷▷▷A Golf Lesson On Weight Transfer

We all want to lower our golf handicap. That's why we practice so hard and read so much about the game. It's the "Holy Grail" of golf. Among the keys to achieving a lower golf handicap is consistency. You must be consistent to lower your scores and cut strokes from your handicap. If you want to achieve consistency, transferring your weight correctly is a must.

But that's easier said then done. As an instructor, I see many golfers struggle to achieve proper weight transfer. Even golfers who I know are good athletes sometimes have trouble with this. Poor weight transfer is one of the most common swing faults in my golf lessons. It's especially prevalent with golfers who play infrequently. They have what's called a "reverse pivot"- one of the deadliest swing flaws in the game.

Transfer Your Weight

Normally, when swinging a club, you transfer your weight onto your back foot during your takeaway, then onto your front foot during the follow-through. Watch Tiger Woods, Sergio Garcia, or any of the pros on television and you'll see how well they achieve correct weight transfer. For them, it's second nature. They make the transition smoothly and efficiently. That's why they're so consistent when hitting a golf ball. None of them exhibit anything even close to a reverse pivot.

With a reverse pivot, you do the opposite of what you should do. Instead of transferring your weight to your back foot and then to your front foot, you transfer it to your front foot during your takeaway and then back to your back foot during the follow through. This move constricts your body turn, short-circuiting power and inhibiting consistency. Golfer's who exhibit a reverse pivot don't get much on their drives or iron shots.

Causes of a Reverse Pivot

Causes for a reverse pivot are many. An obsession with keeping your head down, an attempt at holding your left arm (right for left-handers) rigidly straight, and/or allowing your head to turn to the right as you swing the club back-all cause a reverse pivot. So if you find yourself doing these things, you may be employing a reverse pivot in your swing without knowing it.

Since the reverse pivot wreaks havoc with your swing, it's hard to describe any tell tale signs that you have the fault. The reverse pivot restricts your turn so much that your arms and hands have to take over the job of your shoulders while hitting the ball. That curbs your power. But two sure-fire signs that you are committing a reverse pivot are loss of power and accuracy.

Eliminating the Reverse Pivot

One way to eliminate the reverse pivot is to practice this drill: Adopt your address position, and then place the club across the back of your shoulders. Now turn as if you were going to hit the ball. As you turn back, the club encourages your head and spine to rotate. Sense your balance as you do this. A good tip to get the hang of this is to look out of the corner of your left eye (right for left-handers) at the top of your swing. Practice this drill as often as you can... and then keep doing it.

Another drill-one that seems to get better results in my golf lessons-is to begin with a sort iron and assume your setup position. From your setup, lift your forward foot and position it next to your back foot. As you swing, take the club away from the ball, lift your forward foot, and allow it to return to the original position in your setup as soon as your club reaches about waist high in your backswing.

This drills trains your body to shift your weight to your back foot at the beginning of the backswing and allows your body to shift its weight toward the front foot at the end of the backswing, and then on through the downswing. It also promotes a much healthier spin angle, both atop your swing and into the finish.

Proper weight transfer is essential to developing a swing that delivers power and accuracy consistently. Achieving consistency-whether by taking golf instruction sessions or through working things out on your own-is the only way to lower your golf handicap. If you're serious about becoming a scratch golfer, make consistency your ultimate goal.

▷▷▷The Importance of a Proper Golf Grip

It can't be emphasized enough how important a proper golf grip is to enjoying the game of golf and shooting lower scores. I remember reading Jack Nicklaus' book when I was a kid and studying the words and pictures he used to describe the different types of golf grips, and the grip that he used to win all of his major championships. An entire chapter was devoted to the proper golf grip, if Jack thought it was that important then you should too.

Unfortunately most beginning golfers spending very little time, if any, learning the proper golf grip. In fact, the majority of people who play golf do not seek any form of proper golf instruction. These simple facts are why few golfers every break 100 and why in general golf scores have not decreased in the past few decades.

Learning the proper golf grip is not difficult, it just takes a little time and practice. In a matter of hours you can learn the proper golf grip, and use this knowledge for a lifetime of playing. As I did with Jacks' book, read about the different types of golf grips and determine what method of gripping the club is best suited to you. Study pictures of the proper way to grip a club and practice holding a club around the house. To keep from beating up our home furniture, I cut a golf shaft in ½ and used to practice while watching T.V. or relaxing around the house. Then take it to the driving range and spend ½ hour reviewing the golf grip and practice hitting balls.

It is always a good idea to review your golf grip. Even advanced players can benefit from an annual review, or anytime their game is suffering. Because of its importance, an improper golf grip is often the cause of various golfing maladies.

A proper grip is when the club is held in your fingers, not your palms. The pressure shouldn't be overly tight. Think of holding a small bird in your hand, you want enough pressure so that they cannot fly away, but not so much pressure as to harm the bird.

Another way to look at the proper grip pressure is to visualize a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 is light and 10 is tight. Try to obtain a pressure of 4 or 5 when you grip the club, just enough pressure to be able to control the club but not enough to choke it to death.

Besides not spending any time learning a proper golf grip, the other common mistake of beginning golfers is to squeeze the club much to tightly. Like most things in the game of golf, what we intuitively think we should be doing is not correct, and often is 180 degrees from what we should actually be doing.

Lighter grip pressure enables wrist hinge which is an important power source, and it also allows for the proper club head rotation to ensure a square club face at impact.

To grip, hold the club in your left hand so that it is across your fingers, right beneath your palm. Next, grip the club with your right hand so the club is across the fingers. Cover your left thumb with your right thumb.

You should work hard to get your grip right from the beginning. Once you have found the correct grip, don't deviate from it.

▷▷▷A Review of the Book Giants Past and Present - Written by Dan Fost

Dan Fost is a freelance writer who lives in the San Francisco area, he focuses mainly on technology subjects but is also a serious baseball fan who has written his first baseball book Giants Past & Present, which is part of a series published by MVP Books.

Upon moving to San Francisco in 1989, Dan was struck by the storied aspects of the franchise and was immediately immersed in a World Series, and then four years later in one of the all-time great pennant races, when the Giants lost to the Dodgers on the last day of the season. The 1993 team won 103 games on the year but lost the NL West to the Braves by one game.

This beautiful coffee table book is set up in a Giants Past & Present format with each chapter examining and comparing the owners, the managers, key players for each position, even the details of the ballparks. All of this is surrounded by over 200 stunning photographs.

With a franchise as storied as the Giants, but with two very distinct eras as an east coast and west coast team, we were curious as to whether fans actually make any sort of distinction. Dan is encouraged that ownership under Peter Magowan really embraces the team's heritage and includes all of the New York Giants players in all-time stats, and displays the team pennants at the ballpark. The fans in the area were slow to embrace all of the players who arrived in 1957 epitomized by the great quote Dan sent in an email:

"This is the damnedest town," wrote Frank Conniff, covering a visit to San Francisco by Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev. "They cheer Khrushchev and boo Willie Mays."

We felt we should turn the tables and let Dan tell us about some players that he feels deserves some attention.

Buck Ewing is a player who Dan believes does not get discussed enough when the conversation turns to "best of all time", but Buck's legacy should be that he is one of the best catchers to ever play the game.

John Montgomery Ward was a versatile player who helped the Giants to Championships in 1888 and 1889. He also put his skills as a lawyer to use by organizing the players and negotiating for better rights and conditions, to the point he started his own league with players who defected from the '89 Champions.

Dan points to a book by Frank DeFord called The Old Ball Game, about John McGraw and Christy Mathewson as an intriguing character study, particularly the dichotomies of McGraw. Dan also uses McGraw's records as another example that the Giants have been a franchise that can rival the storied Cubs and for many years the Red Sox as never reaching the ultimate goal and always succumbing to heartbreak.

Part of the way that we like to look at a team's history is to mentally visit the ballparks in which they played. The Polo Grounds in New York, built below Coogan's Bluff seemed to be a wonderful place to watch a game. Similar to the viewing perches outside of Wrigley Field, Coogan's Bluff allowed for an easy line of site to the action. Dan recounts how on the day when the Giants had to replay the Cubs to resolve the "Merkle's Boner" transgressions.. over 200,000 fans showed up and had to be turned away. Forty thousand approximately ended up on Coogan's Bluff trying to get a view.

In a nod the baseball tradition of a "Knothole Gang", the new home of the Giants AT&T Park contains a fenced area for fans to watch the game.

Dan has season's tickets in an upper deck section of AT&T behind home plate, and gets to take in the glory of the views of the Bay, McCovey's Cove and the entire ballpark. From an engineering standpoint they figured out how to situate the park so that he is comfortable in his seat while winds are swirling around the concourse.

Set between the homes in New York and the beautiful retro style ballpark they are in today, the Giants played their games in Candlestick Park. It did not take long for the conditions of Candlestick to have an impact on players who complained about the weather, and historically it made it hard for the team to entice key free agents to play for the Giants. By attempting to develop a new park via ballot measure, ownership had to attempt to attract fans to the games each season while simultaneously having to complain about the stadium to get financing support.

The Croix de Candlestick became a badge of honor dreamed up by Patrick Gallagher for those who have made it completely through an extra inning night game at the park.

It should not be overlooked that the Giants teams of the Sixties had some great ballplayers who called Candlestick home, so at least there was some good baseball to be seen. Willie McCovey stated to Dan during the preparation for this book, that after lining out to Bobby Richardson to end the 1962 World Series he was not that upset, because the entire team felt that they were so loaded with talent that they would continue to return to the World Series throughout the decade.

We also have to look at the 1989 World Series as another defining moment in the history of Candlestick Park, and we get Dan's eyewitness account of being in the city during that time. The conversation of baseball's ability to heal a community during challenging times such as the World Wars and more recently after the 9/11 attacks, must also include San Francisco and Oakland after the Loma Prieta earthquake prior to Game 3.

Giants Past and Present is available wherever great books are sold.

▷▷▷The Best Golf Instruction Books

Golf instruction books have been written for a long time. The Great Bobby Jones even recorded videos back in his day! Golf instruction books have played a vital role in teaching America how to play golf as well as teaching teachers how to teach the game. Many of today.s PGA Teaching Professionals have developed their current teaching methods with what they have gathered out of golf instructional books.

In 1946, On Learning Golf by Percy Boomer was released and quickly became one of the first "Instructional Bibles." ▷▷▷Does Video Help Your Golf Swing?

Do you need help with your golf swing? People tell you all the time that your swing looks great, but you know that you can be better?

How many times have you seen your swing on video? Video instruction can truly be a great tool for learning to make a better golf swing, create more power, and with the right instructor, improve your game. Be careful with video instruction, though. Many instructors use video to technically pull apart your swing and have you thinking so many thoughts that hitting the ball becomes impossible. Take it slow! Make sure that your instructor is not giving you too many items to improve.

You may also be disappointed when you see your swing for the first time. Do not be disappointed! That is why you are taking the video. The golf swing rarely feels like it looks. Nobody is swinging improperly on purpose! You are trying to make the right move! Keep it simple and do not try to fix everything at once. Your instructor will point out the most important items to improve, and this will likely improve other areas of your swing! Remember, for each swing fault, there is usually a compensation to make up for it, creating another swing fault.

The wave of instruction over the years has turned to video lessons. They are great, but very expensive, and at the indoor centers, the pressure to buy the "packages" is intense. There is a new way to gain access to high quality instruction at a less expensive price. There are websites now set up to offer video instruction and tutoring over the internet. The access is simple, the instruction is good, and it is truly the least expensive way to have high quality instruction.

This wave of instruction is not new to sports. Online instruction has been gaining popularity in many coaching avenues.

How does this work? It is simple! You simply take a couple of short videos of your swing, either with a tripod camera, or a friend, and send them to your chosen instructor. You then answer a few questions regarding problems with your game, ball flight, handicap, and then your instructor will go to work to improve your game.

Your instructor will then view the video, make a few recommendations, and send you a couple of return videos with instructions and a few drills to work on your swing.

This is a great way for anyone to now get quality instruction. You are no longer limited by where you live, or if there is a quality instructor close by, and it is definitely the least expensive golf instruction available.

Check out some of the websites online that are now doing online video golf lessons. It is a great way to improve your game without emptying your wallet!

Good Luck with the swing and the game! Golf is the greatest game of all!
