▷▷▷It's The Simple Moves That Make Change Easier And Effective!

Last week while playing some business golf with people in my referral network, I found reinforcement for thinking behind the approach I have been using with clients to help them make the critical changes necessary to thrive in these uncertain times. It was an unexpected and very nice side benefit of spending a pleasant afternoon with friends on the golf course.

One of my golfing partners that day, Doug Welch, recently was involved in helping sell a warehouse where he came across a book titled "One Move To Better Golf: A simple 'One-Move Method' to Produce a Perfect Swing" by Carl Lohren with Larry Dennis, first published in the 1970's.

Doug decided to read the book he found and told us on the first hole that it is "one of the best books on golf instruction I have ever read!" And Doug pointed out that he has read hundreds of golf instruction magazines and books in his lifetime.

Doug then proceeded to hit 13 or 14 fairways on Friday!!! It was truly the best exhibition of driving the golf ball I have ever witnessed! He hit them straight and long all day.

THE KEY LESSON from this day on the golf course was...

"Simple Moves" can solve complex problems!!!

This golf outing was first-hand proof that "Simple Moves" can solve complex problems! Anyone who plays golf knows how complex we can make the golf swing.

The same can be said about a lot of things in life - we can make them more complex than they have to be! Granted, some things do get complex because of the number of people and connecting points involved. The thing is, we tend to make moves that complicate our challenge even more. Instead, we should step back to look for simple moves that will create momentum for the overall challenge!

Below are three examples of other simple moves (outside of golf) that make change easier and more effective:

Losing Weight. Researchers have found that the two simple moves of adding just 500 steps to your daily routine and cutting just 100 calories from one meal each day can get you on a path to losing one pound every 10 days. It's this simple move that gets people going in the right direction. Once headed in that direction, people are then inspired to be overachievers on their path. Dealing with Difficult Relationship Challenges. This title immediately resonates with most people because everyone can find some relationship in their life where they are facing challenges during these uncertain times. However, the title is part of the problem if we want to really resolve the challenge. It is the antithesis of solution-focused therapy - focusing on the problem instead of the solution. The first step in dealing with difficult relationship challenges is to re-frame the challenge to be focusing on the positive solution we want to work toward and then making simple moves in that direction. Improving Strategy and Execution. When faced with major challenges in business, leaders need to step back and evaluate their overall strategy and overall execution to define a path forward. This seems like a huge undertaking (perception problem) when the leaders of the company are already overwhelmed and searching for some quick relief! This perception problem comes from the experience that most people have had with strategic planning - it has been a time intensive process which results in a large document that sits on the shelf and provides no immediate relief! Embracing a new and more practical strategic planning model and process, the One-Page Strategic Plan, is a simple move that can create momentum and provide immediate results. The initial strategic planning can be done in short iterative meetings over time and create real momentum and results during the first 90 days. It is then just a matter of developing quarterly execution plans that can build-on the initial momentum of your strategic planning efforts!

So, ask yourself...

What "Simple Moves" could help me solve my complex challenges right now?

You might need an objective coach or friend looking at your situation from the outside to find your right "simple move" but it will make the change you face much easier and more effective!
