▷▷▷Perfect Your Golf Swing in Slow Motion

Your golf swing is the product of lessons, your own explorations, and hard work. Keeping track of all its components is the trick, and when your swing goes awry, it's because something got left out. There's a practice technique that allows you to monitor your swing to ensure that everything happens that's supposed to happen, and at the right time. That's slow-motion swinging.

The slow-motion swing gives you continuous, accurate information on where every part of your body is and how it's moving from one spot to another, because now you have the time to notice. Two benefits proceed from this.

First, you can tell if you're doing the things you know you need to do, that come and go by quickly in a normally-paced swing. Second, you'll notice errors that you might be able to force your way through in a faster swing.

What do I mean by slow motion? How slow is that? It's real slow. It generally takes you one second to start your swing and come back down to hit the ball. Try taking about eight seconds from takeaway to the top, and four seconds back down. Of course, you want to continue on to your high, balanced finish at the same speed. That's slow-motion!

Here's an example of how the slow-motion swing works for you. Many amateur golfers know they should stay behind the ball through impact, but they also know that their weight through impact should be mainly on the leg that is ahead of the ball. It seems impossible to do both things at the same time.

Yet, by swinging slowly you will find that is the easiest thing in the world to pull off. Slowing down the swing gives you the chance to figure out how to put your body in the position to get that move right.

Another common swing flaw is starting the swing down with the hands instead of the body turn. This is called casting, and everyone who shoots in the 80s or higher does it. Casting causes a pronounced loss of power, and poor contact because of how it re-routes the clubhead into the ball. A slow-motion swing will let you feel what it is like to keep your hands back on the downswing until it is time for them to release the clubhead into the ball square and in line.

This swing drill is something you can do anywhere you are, because you don't need a ball. Just pick up a club and start swinging. Make it your practice habit to take 10-15 slow-motion swings every day. Over time, you will put this flawless swing into your subconscious mind, and, as if by magic, it will start coming out when you play. But it's not magic. It's thoughtful, intelligent practice using the best swing drill there is.
